A single Instagram story in India usually sells for somewhere between ₹500 and ₹5,000, and the number tracks your reach far more closely than your follower count. On Qolab in August 2026, the median listed story rate for a creator with 1,000 to 10,000 followers was ₹707. For 10,000 to 50,000 followers it was ₹1,641.
Those are numbers to think from, not a rate card to copy. The more useful question, and the one this post answers, is how a story price is built: what a story is actually worth to a brand, why it sits below a reel, and what pushes it up.
Stories are also the deliverable creators give away most often. They get thrown into a reel deal as a bonus, priced at nothing, and then the brand asks for three of them.
What is the going rate for an Instagram story in India?
Roughly ₹700 to ₹4,000 for most creators under 250,000 followers. In August 2026, 225 Indian creators with a connected Instagram account listed a story rate on Qolab. Most of them started from the rate our pricing model suggested and adjusted from there, so read these as the going asking price on the platform rather than as an independent survey of the market.
We have eight creators above 250,000 followers, far too thin a sample to publish a macro band, so we have not published one. The spread inside each band is also wide, because reach and engagement move the number much more than follower count does. In the 10,000 to 50,000 band the middle half of creators sit anywhere between ₹460 and ₹5,105 for a story.
Why does a story cost less than a reel?
Because it reaches fewer people and then deletes itself. Socialinsider's Instagram Stories benchmark study, published in June 2025 and built on 161,180 stories, found that for accounts with 1,000 to 5,000 followers a feed post reaches 4.0 percent of followers while a story reaches 3.3 percent. A reel carries the added weight of being pushed to people who do not follow you at all.
Qolab Price, the rate model on our own platform, encodes that gap directly: it computes a story at 40 percent of the same creator's reel rate and a static feed post at 70 percent. That is a starting suggestion the platform calculates from your real engagement, not a market survey, and every creator can change it. Our explainer on how Qolab Price is calculated walks through the inputs.
The 25 to 40 percent band we published in our reel pricing guide for India still works as a sanity check. If a brand offers you well under a quarter of your reel rate for a story, the offer is low. If it offers more than half, take it.
Why is one story frame the weakest thing you can sell?
Because a single frame barely reaches anyone. In the same Socialinsider study, story reach rate climbs from 6.3 percent of followers at one slide to 20.5 percent by the sixth slide, and peaks at 37.8 percent around the thirteenth. Sequence is what earns the reach, not the individual frame.
That has a direct consequence for how you quote. When a brand asks for one story, it is buying the weakest version of the format, and you are the one who looks underwhelming when the screenshots come back thin.
Quote a three-frame minimum instead: a hook frame, a frame showing the product or the demonstration, and a frame carrying the link or the code. It is the same shoot and roughly the same effort, it delivers materially better numbers, and it gives you a price you can defend line by line.
The retention data points the same way. Socialinsider found the first slide loses 23.8 percent of viewers, easing to 13.3 percent by the ninth. The people who stay past your opening frame are the ones a brand is actually paying for.
What should a static feed post cost?
More than a story, less than a reel. A feed post outlives the day it goes up, it sits on your grid where someone can find it a month later, and in the Socialinsider data it reaches slightly more of your followers than a story does.
On Qolab in August 2026 the median listed static post rate was ₹1,155 for creators with 1,000 to 10,000 followers, ₹3,638 for 10,000 to 50,000 and ₹10,000 for 50,000 to 250,000, across the same 225 creators.
One caveat worth saying plainly. Carousels are priced as static posts almost everywhere in India, including on our platform, even though they take several times the work of a single image. If you are shooting six frames for a carousel, price it as a carousel and say so in the quote.
What actually moves a story price up?
Six things, roughly in the order they matter. None of them is your follower count.
- Permission to run it as an advertisement. Letting a brand put media spend behind your face is the biggest jump on this list, and it belongs in writing before you shoot, not after they have the file.
- A link sticker or a discount code. A story that sends traffic is a measurable placement rather than a mention, and it should be priced above a plain shout-out.
- Frame count. Price per sequence, not per story. Three frames is a deliverable, one frame is a favour.
- How long it stays up. A story saved to a highlight is no longer a 24-hour placement. Either charge for the extra time or agree a date it comes down.
- Exclusivity. Agreeing not to post a competing brand for 30 days costs you work you cannot take. That has a price, and it is separate from the story itself.
- Turnaround. Same-week delivery is worth a premium. Say so while you are agreeing the rate, never after you have accepted the brief.
How do you quote it without losing the deal?
Give the brand a shape, not a menu. Most brand contacts are not trying to underpay you. They are trying to fill a line in a budget sheet and they need a number they can defend to their manager.
“Happy to do this. My story rate is ₹X for a three-frame sequence, which covers a hook, the product and a frame with your link. A single frame on its own is ₹Y. If you want it kept in my highlights past 24 hours, or you want to run it as a paid ad, tell me now and I will send a revised number rather than change it on you later.”
Two things make that work. You named a number first, which anchors the conversation before the brand names a budget, and you separated the base deliverable from the paid extras, which is what stops the scope creeping after the shoot. Our pitch templates for Indian creators use the same structure for the first email.
How do you prove a story was delivered?
Screenshot the insights inside 24 hours. This is the practical trap in every story deal: the deliverable erases itself, and the brand's proof of what it bought disappears with it.
- Screenshot the story insights panel within 24 hours of posting, before it expires. Send reach, not impressions.
- Include sticker taps or link clicks and replies. Those three numbers answer what a brand actually wants to know.
- Keep the original file. Brands ask for a repost or a re-edit weeks later far more often than you would expect.
- If there is a link in the story, use one the brand can measure on their side too. It removes the argument about attribution entirely.
Where Qolab fits
Qolab shows a suggested rate for each deliverable on your profile: reel, story, static post and a combo package. It reads your real engagement straight from Instagram and computes a floor from that, so the number you show a brand is calculated rather than guessed. You can raise any of the four, and brands see the number you set.
In August 2026 there were 232 creators with Instagram connected on Qolab, spread across 96 cities and 22 states, with a median engagement rate of 5.24 percent. Payments are held safely until you deliver.
Qolab is where Indian creators get found by brands. Connect your Instagram, get a profile brands can search by niche and city, see a fair rate for every deliverable including stories, and keep payments held safely until you deliver. Sign up free at qolab.in.
