To reach out to an influencer, send one short message from your real brand account that says who you are, what you want made, by when, and what you will pay in rupees. DM nano and micro creators, email anyone who lists a business email, and go through the manager for large creators. Follow up once, after three to seven working days.
Almost every outreach template that ranks for this question was written for American brands and dollar budgets, and most leave the price out. This guide fills both gaps: where your message actually lands on Instagram, the live reel rates Indian creators are asking this month, and five templates with the numbers already in them.
DM or email: which channel should you use?
Use the channel the creator has told you to use. If the bio lists a business email, email. If it names a manager, write to the manager. If there is neither, which is normal for nano and micro creators, send an Instagram DM from your brand account.
Know where that DM goes. According to the Instagram Help Centre page on message requests, messages from people a user does not follow arrive in a separate Message requests folder, and they must be accepted before they appear in the user's Chats. Creators can also switch requests off entirely. A creator with a busy inbox may not open that folder for days, which is why a follow-up is normal and silence after one day means nothing.
Do not try to solve this with volume. Instagram says it limits direct messages to stop spam, and an account that keeps sending after a warning can lose the ability to send DMs for a while. Pasting the same message to 200 creators in an afternoon is the fastest way to lose your brand account's inbox in the middle of a campaign.
What makes a creator reply?
Creators check you before they answer you. In Sprout Social's influencer research, quoted in its guide to influencer outreach templates, 93 percent of influencers agreed that the quality of a brand's own social content affects whether they agree to collaborate. A brand account with six posts and no website link looks like a risk.
Indian creators have a second reason to be careful: fake brand collaborations are common enough that many creators now treat every unknown offer as a possible scam. Our creator-side guide to fake brand collab red flags tells them to walk away from anyone who asks for a fee, avoids naming a budget, or pushes the conversation to WhatsApp before anything is in writing. Write the opposite of that message:
- **A named person.** "I'm Riya, I run creator partnerships at <brand>" beats a message from nobody.
- **One specific post.** Name a reel of theirs and why it fits. It proves a person sent this.
- **The exact deliverable.** One reel, two stories, live by a date.
- **A rupee budget.** A number is the single fastest way to look real and to stop a week of back and forth.
- **Nothing to pay, ever.** Never ask a creator for a deposit, a shipping fee or a "registration" charge.
How much should you offer?
Put a number in the first message. These are live Qolab asking rates for one Instagram reel, from 623 Indian creators with 1,000 to 999,999 followers whose accounts synced in the 30 days to 16 October 2026. They are the rates creators list before any negotiation, not prices paid.
A budget near the median gets a quick yes or a counter-offer. A budget well below the middle half gets silence. If you want the reel for paid ads, or want the creator to avoid your competitors for a period, say so in the first message and pay for it, because both are priced on top of the base rate.
Expect more brands in the same inboxes. The Influencer Marketing Hub Benchmark Report 2026, a May 2026 survey of 600+ marketers, found 51.43 percent of brands plan to expand work with nano creators and 52.83 percent with micro creators, against 20.59 percent for macro. More brands are heading for the same small creators, and a vague message is the easiest one to skip.
Five templates you can send today
Replace everything in angle brackets. Keep each one short. If you have not built your list yet, start with how to find Instagram influencers in India.
“Hi <first name>, I'm <name> from <brand> (<website>). Your reel on <topic> is exactly how we want <product> explained. We'd like one reel and two stories, live by <date>, for ₹<amount>. Product shipped free, yours to keep. Open to it? Happy to send the full brief.”
“Subject: Paid reel for <brand>, live by <date>, ₹<amount>. Hi <first name>, I lead creator partnerships at <brand>, a <one-line description> based in <city>. Your <specific post> is why I'm writing. We're looking for one reel showing <use case>, organic posting only, live by <date>. Our budget is ₹<amount>, paid on delivery. If that works, I'll share the brief and agreement. <name>, <role>, <phone>.”
“Hi <manager name>, I'm <name>, <role> at <brand>. We'd like to book <creator> for <deliverables> in <month>, with paid usage for <30 or 90> days and category exclusivity for <period>. Our budget for that scope is ₹<amount>. Could you share availability and whether this works?”
“Hi <first name>, I'm <name> from <brand>. We'd love to send you <product, worth ₹<value>>, no strings attached. If you like it and post about it, please label it Free gift or use the Paid Partnership tag, since it came from us. If you'd rather do a paid reel instead, tell me your rate.”
“Hi <first name>, following up on my note about a paid reel for <brand>, ₹<amount>, live by <date>. If the timing or the number doesn't work, just tell me, and I'll keep you in mind for the next one.”
Template 4 matters more than it looks. Under ASCI's guidelines a free product is a material connection, so a gifted post needs a disclosure label just like a paid one. Our guide to the ASCI disclosure rules lists the labels that count.
What should you do after a creator says yes?
Move straight to the brief. Send the deliverable, key message, dos and don'ts, the live date, usage rights and the payment date in writing, the same day. The 11-point influencer brief covers everything a creator needs to quote and deliver without a second round of questions.
Then pay when you said you would. Creators talk to each other, and the brand that paid on time is the one they answer next time.
A brand account on Qolab replaces the cold DM with an offer that carries your brief, shows the creator's rate when you make the offer, and holds your payment until the content is live.
